Kourik received his training in the field under the auspices of the School of Hard Knocks. He started one of the first organic landscape maintenance companies in America in 1974. He learned his trade skills from the inside-out and by working with clients throughout California and the country.
Kourik defined the genera of gardening called edible landscaping with “just” high school diplomas. It’s precisely because he didn’t go to college that allowed him to envision a field and profession which is both interdisciplinary (crossing all arbitrary collegiate department boundaries) and original. Kourik is still trying to graduate from the School of Hard Knocks.
